The ForestERA toolkit uses a spatial decision support
system (SDSS) made up of software tools and user guides in a collaborative
environment to aid stakeholders in developing forest management
scenarios and testing their cumulative effects on wildlife habitat
and fire
hazard and behavior. The tools carry the user through the SDSS “workflow” by
integrating various fire, wildlife, watershed and other decision-making
criteria with user preferences for application (see Figure
1). For example, a user may be interested in designing
a set of restoration treatments (e.g., various thinning and/or
prescribed
burning treatments) to meet one or more forest management objectives
while exploring the cumulative effects of this management “scenario” on
Mexican spotted owl habitat and fire hazard reduction. |

ForestERA offers technology transfer workshops to train participants in the use of SDDS. |
